Weekend Outlook: August 22-25

| August 22, 2013 | 0 Comments

One of summer’s last big hurrah weekends could potentially be dampened by smoke, which is rolling in from the Rim Fire near Yosemite National Park and reducing visibility throughout the Tahoe region today. Temperatures are expected to be beautiful, though, and if we get a wind to clear this out it should be a gorgeous weekend on the mountain. As always, check out the below list for some ideas on things to do!

Thursday

Mojo Green brings the tunes at the second-to-last Truckee Thursdays of the year! (Already!?) Bring the whole family down for great food, a beer garden, live tunes, and, of course, the bouncy castle. Details are here.

At 6 p.m. tonight, UC Davis Dr. Sally Rogers will be presenting some of the latest research on the effects of autism in very young children at Davis’s Tahoe Environmental Research Center on the campus of Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village. There will be a no-host bar and doors open at 5:30 p.m. Event details are here.

Friday

At 6 p.m., enjoy the sounds of the McCoy Tyler Band at Kings Beach as a part of the town’s concerts on the beach series. The show is free and should wrap up with a pretty stunning sunset. Event details are here.

This event will go all weekend, but the Lake in the Sky Air Show starts at 5 p.m. Friday at the Lake Tahoe Airport in South Lake. Come check out the planes before they take off into action on Saturday and Sunday and meet the pilots. Entrance is free and parking is $10. Event details are here. Up, up and away!

Saturday

Get down to the MontBleu for the Boil n’ Fry Day Crawfish Festival! Live music, a $250 prize for the beanbag competition and $2 beers should make for a great day to celebrate those little Tahoe crustaceans that taste so good. The event starts at 1 p.m. and goes until 10:30 p.m. Event details are here.

Why don’t you take Fido out for a little live music and pond-jumpin’ at Squaw Valley? Starting at noon both weekend days, Squaw is hosting its annual Peaks and Paws event, which pairs live music and pet-theme artwork with a slew of dog-friendly activities, including a competitive tennis-ball fetching event in Cushing Pond! Event details are here.

Sunday

End the weekend with a wonderful stroll through the Pacific Fine Arts Festival at Tahoe City’s Boatworks Mall. Check out an array of family-friendly arts and crafts in downtown TC. Event details are here.
